On Saturday, April 5, the Phillis Wheatley Community Center (PWCC) proudly welcomed friends, families, and neighbors to a joyful celebration marking the beginning of a powerful new partnership with Spectrum.

It was an afternoon full of energy, connection, and community pride as we announced our selection as the recipient of a generous $50,000 grant from Spectrum to enhance our job skills training programs and $40,000 in-kind support through upgrading our IT lab, re-striping our parking lot, and refurbishing our front entrance—important improvements that will help us better serve our community for years to come.

Out of all the nonprofits in Greenville, Spectrum and their partners chose PWCC to receive this incredible investment—and we couldn’t be more honored. The celebration wasn’t just about the funding; it was about the future we’re building together.

Guests enjoyed an afternoon packed with fun and festivities. Tipton Jones-Boiter opened the event with a beautiful rendition of Feeling Good by Nina Simone, and DJ Chill Will 864 – a PWCC alumnus – kept the crowd moving. Delicious food from Moo Hawgs, face painting and caricatures by Calvin Blassingame brought out smiles from attendees of all ages.

One of the day’s most heartwarming moments came when Spectrum announced that they would be covering tuition for two students to attend our summer camp—an opportunity that will make a lasting difference in those children’s lives.

Calvin Blassingame did caricatures of the attendees. There was a face painter and a saxophone player that Spectrum called that I do not have information for.And the giveaways were a hit!

We are deeply grateful to Spectrum for believing in the mission of PWCC and for helping us expand our impact in the community we love. Most of all, we’re thankful to everyone who came out to celebrate with us. Your support reminds us why we do what we do every day.

Stay tuned for updates on our program enhancements and facility upgrades—we’re just getting started!
