Phillis Wheatley Community Center is located along the Laurens Road corridor in the rapidly developing “Midtown” section of Greenville. We are approximately 2 miles from downtown Greenville, 6.3 miles from Mauldin, and 13 miles from Simpsonville.

Our facilities include two buildings. The Upper Campus building (40 John McCarroll Way, Greenville, SC 29607) is home to our on-campus partners. The Lower Campus building (335 Greenacre Road, Greenville, SC 29607) is home to our administrative offices, and Greenville County Parks and Recreation offices.

Facilities Available for Rent

Gymnasium with Performance Stage

Our gym is perfect for indoor athletics such as basketball, pickleball, volleyball and more. It also has all the stage space you need to host the perfect performance. In fact, our renowned Dwight Woods Repertory Theatre performs on the stage often. The gym will hold an audience of up to 650 people.

Community Room

Our community room is very large. In fact, it serves as a polling place for the community on election day! If you have a larger group, this space is perfect for you. The community room will hold up to 150 people.

Classroom

Our Classroom is good for smaller groups. We use it to host our senior social program for approximately 20 seniors every Friday! The classroom is good for groups up to 25.

FAQs

What equipment is available with my rental?

With the rental price comes tables and chairs. Audio/Visual equipment is available at an extra cost.

Is parking available?

There are about 75 designated spaces in our parking lot, and we do have overflow parking available upon request.

Will you have a staff person present for my event?

Yes. We will have one staff person available to coordinate with you.

Do you require security for my event?

Security may be required for events of a certain size or time of day.

May I bring my own food to my event?

For events with less than 50 attendees, you may bring in your own food. For larger events with more than 50 attendees, we will provide you with a list of our preferred caterers.

Do you have an ice machine or vending machines available?

No. Please bring your own ice for beverages and your own snacks. However, we will be able to offer concessions and snacks once our commercial kitchen is complete.

Is decor included in my rental?

No; however, we are happy to refer you to a preferred vendor for your decorating needs.
