Masterclass Series: Vaughn Newman
Join us in welcoming Vaughn Newman as the first presenter in our Masterclass Series. Vaughn will be holding dance masterclasses May 10th, 2025, one in Contemporary dance, the other in African/Modern dance.
Vaughn Newman is a choreographer, professional dancer, and the visionary founder of Vaughn Newman Dance, an organization committed to advancing the art of dance in Upstate South Carolina and beyond. His artistic journey began at the William Penn Arts Charter in Philadelphia, PA, and grew through rigorous training at Freedom Theater, PHILADANCO, and New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL. While in Miami, Vaughn showcased his talent with MOMENTUM Dance Company and Brazz Dance Theater.
After relocating to Upstate South Carolina in 2009, Vaughn immersed himself in the local arts community, collaborating with various studios and theaters to enrich the cultural landscape. In recognition of his dedication, Vaughn was named one of South Arts’ “Emerging Leaders of Color” (2022 Cohort). His artistic endeavors have also taken him to Accra, Ghana; Havana, Cuba; and London, where he continues exploring diverse traditional, cultural, and spiritual dance forms.
Through his craft, Vaughn masterfully tells compelling stories, intertwining movement with spirituality, personal experiences, human connection, spoken word, and evocative choreography—all to inspire higher consciousness through the transformative power of the arts.
